Yep. And someone now trying to start a covid flame war thread yet again. Would be nice to banish all culture war discussions. They’re just so circular.
I did put him on the poor behaviour list for that. It was well deserved too, cunt of a topic

Maybe I should lock the cunt. Ya reckon?

Scientific illiteracy has always been a good way to keep the peasants too mad at each other to do anything too disruptive though. Wouldn't want to take that away from anyone.

You see that thread going anywhere even remotely positive or productive?🤣

Climate change isn’t a left/right issue. Maggie Thatcher warned of it in 1989 and no one would call her a leftie. I’m right wing as well but unfortunately this has become a culture war issue.

As mentioned earlier in this thread - climate change aside - a move to electric engines has been a long time coming. Nuclear subs and nuclear aircraft carriers have had electric variants for decades. Even WWII subs were electric - charging their batteries with diesel engines during lulls in the fighting. They could be considered the early hybrids.

Let’s keep the culture wars out of it and focus on the technology.
Subs have always been electric, it would bee hard to run an engine underwater I imagine.
Nuclear also powers a steam turbine to produce electricity to power the electric motors
Deisel trains also use the engine to produce electricity to power the electric motors
Bulk carriers also use a 2 stroke deisel type engine to produce electricity to power electric motors
The issue with electric is the energy density we are sort of waiting for a whole new battery technology before we can really implement massive change over

Spot on.

Electric motors have been around for decades. Sourcing and/or storing the electricity has been the major hurdle.

What's funny about EVs is that unless we have more reliable solutions for renewable energy theyre gonna mostly be run on fossil fuel electricity which defeats the whole point of them being "environmentally friendly" 😂

Doesn't defeat the purpose because the efficiency of power extracted on an industrial scale is much higher then what can be economically placed in a personal vehicle
There is still a net positive return on carbon from rechargeable electric compared to internal combustion it's just not very convenient with current technology especially in a country as large as ours
Edit as large as ours with our population density

Unironically hate the whole "I'm doing it for the environment" virtue signalling bullshit, makes me want to go out of my way to not get an EV purely culture war wise...I'll reconsider when they make all new g wagons and Nissan gtrs electric. Main thing I want in a car is status, not married to certain engine or fuel source, shit give me the first nuclear power GWagon to test drive... Issue is right now EVs just seem gay purple haired urban bugmen dyke cars

I swear before musk became cool on twitter the rep Tesla had in the US was that it was for San fran urban bugmen homosexuals(literally like gay dude couples in sf). Then musk made a lot of ppl rich with Tesla stock and got on twitter so Tesla became "cool". Also besides Tesla all the other evs seem piss asf.

Charging and battery life seem annoying asf as well. Rn you can just set off across aus and you'll get to the other side driving and have a servo every few ks. What happens after 200ks?

Currently own only v8 petrols. Two new and one classic. I often think it’s a bit ridiculous for both of us to drive big petrol 4bys but I just love driving it so much so when that stops I might just move into a hybrid Camry or something just to run around in. We need one big car that can go off-road

Work has EV cars and while they drive all good… they are a fucking pain to make sure they are charged and having to make sure we only plan small trips so we don’t have to sit around waiting hours for it to charge.

I drive a hybrid Toyota Yaris cross and love it. Fuel is great and it’s a Toyota so can’t beat that. I’m not a huge car person so perfect for me
